The toddler wandered into La Bella Roma on North Farview Avenue just off Route 17 around 12:30 p.m. March 12, Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti said.
"it was crazy. He just walked in stark naked," a witness said. "He grabbed a package of Oreos and started to eat them.
"He didn’t know English and didn’t respond to yes or no, either. He sat with the owner [until] the police. Just happy he’s OK."
Guidetti's officers summoned Paramus EMTs who checked out the toddler, secured him in a child safety seat and brought him to police headquarters.
Community Policing Officer Lou Cardone obtained pertinent information and listed the child on his department's disabled resident ID program, the chief said.
A search for family continued before the mother turned up nearly an hour later, responders said.
She told police that she was preparing the boy for a bath when he bolted out the front door, Guidetti said.
"No charges were filed at this time," the chief said.
Police did, however, notify the state Division of Child Protection & Permanency, he said.
